Long time lurker and new member here.

Hello everyone! Noticed small white spots in a few of my parrots? Is this ICH? If not any guesses? Any suggestions on how to proceed? Water parameters : ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 10ppm and pH 7.2. temp 82f and just adjusted to 86 just in case. Thank you in advance for any help.

Yes looks like it, keep heat at 86 and add some salt
Has it been bullied or stressed in any way?

No bullies, a few have come down with it.How much salt should I add? I read about 1tsp of salt per gallon? Can I raise the temp and not add salt? Will it eradicate it with the higher temp?

You need to raise the temp up to 89F to kill the parasite. Get lots of aeration...raise filter outlets to splash above. Add the recommended salt amount slowly...over a few days rather than dumping it at once...to avoid stressing the fish.

Raise the temp to 86-89 degrees for about 10 days. I never had to use meds, but I've used salt.

What other fishes are in the tank?

88 or 89 is where the heat and salt (1.5 ~ 2 tablespoons of salt per 5 gallons) kill the parasite after it become free floating, even if you see your fish cleared out the white spots in few days but you will need to keep your tank going for 2 weeks before lower the temp to regular temp.

I usually treat my fish for ich at 82-84, I get nervous above that. I fear I might be boiling the poor fishies haha. Also remember to take out any live plants if you raise the temp that high most will melt. I do agree about the extra aeration and salt though. Slowly increase the salt concentration over a few days. If you have to do a water change also remember to replace a proportionate amount of salt from what you take out. You should vacuum every few days during the treatment to get any dead/living ich parasites off the bottom of the tank. Plus the extra clean water will help them recover sooner.

Also continue the treatment for at least 2 weeks. Sometimes you will think you got it all and it might pop up again once the parasites complete their lifecycle. Usually if you catch it early though you shouldn't have any problems.
