I want to make a natural vivarium, with live plants, for my white spotted wall gecko (Tarentola annularis). He's in a 10 gallon grow-out now. I can't really find any info on habitats for this species other than it's adaptable, lives in both Sub-saharan Africa and Florida, and is usually found on walls.

P.S. : I have a bunch of big willow branches I can use if applicable.

No other replies?
By the way, I actually checked that website out. That's where I got the idea for my 40 gallon paludarium.

if you want it to be like its natural habitat you will need some wall siding. it would be really cool to do a faux brick wall with some vines going up it and a plant or two in front of that. otherwise I would just do a cluttered plant habitat and a water source.

Should it look like more rainforest like or more like a leopard gecko tank. Mine was wild caught in Florida, but they originate in sub-saharan Africa. Can I use play sand in the tank?

i like!

you can use sand but it wouldnt work great if you are wanting to plant anything. I would use a mixture of peat moss and sand and plant some arid type plants. I have seen some nice bonsai olive trees and I bet that would look pretty dang cool.

As for plants go for Crassula ovata and Sanseveria trifasciata, you cant go wrong with those, they are both from dry climates. The habitat should be a semi-humid one, desertic but not so much as a leo´s.

Well, it looks like I am going to have to put it off for a while. Apparently, when I put a willow branch in his tank it brought in mites! I started using an anti-mite medicine, and I plan on submerging the entire enclosure in a hot water/bleach solution. I am just going to throw out all the decorations and the reptile carpet. After his mites are gone, I will make his enclosure natural, but until they are gone, he's gonna live on paper towel... :(
