im a lil concerned and i dunno if i should be or not but my female black molly was swimming around with what looked like a lil bit of white string comming out of her underside it was just a lil longer then she is. It has just this moment disatached itself is this something i should be worried about?

sounds like intestinal worm to me

Yes, it can be treated. Does the fish still have a hearty appetite? If not, then it could indeed be a sign of intestinal parasites. Sometimes the same appearance of poo could also be mucous membrane of their intestines. If need to treat, look for levamisole hydrochloride as it can cover a wide range of intestinal parasites. Your other alternatives though less effective are metronidazole and praziquantel.

Thank you Lupin she is still eating but I will keep a close eye on her, I have to pop to the shop later for some food so I will look and see if they got the stuff so I have it on hand. So the real sign that I should use it is if she stops eating? or should i just dose up the tank as a precaution or is that bad for the fish?

This is a better way to tell when a fish is having issues. Most of the time, fish will look for food so if it is snubbing its usual diet, then that will be the time you will figure out it has a problem.

I wouldn't dose yet. Give it a few more days. If its appetite gradually diminishes, that's the right time to start treating. Look for the med I suggested earlier.

Here's a good link.

Mollies have really long intestines. In the wild they graze on algae almost constantly. I'd start feeding raw veggies like smashed up peas if your fish will take it. It sounds to me like your fish has blockage due to a bacterial infection or as mentioned, a parasite related problem. Try to clean that stomach out with proper diet! :)

i'd look into food that contains metronidazole, such as the flakes sold by florida guppies plus, they also carry anti-worm flakes

It certainly can kill internal parasites but levamisole hydrochloride is more effective as it will also cover more internal parasites than the metronidazole can.
