Hi all, I have recently bought a driftwood (the kind with a slate drilled to the bottom to weigh it down) and now some part of it is covered by this kind of white opaque spongy stuff. I have anubias tied all over it so I can't soak it into salt or hot water or scrub them off. I know they are harmless to the fish but they're incredibly ugly. Is there any kind of small fish/shrimp/snail that will eat it? Thanks:)

It happens to all driftwood at one point or another. Just let it be or buy Chinese or Simase Algae Eaters. They eat it up. A Fei Feng might too, im just not sure...

Thanks for the reply. But doesn't Chinese Algae Eater become very aggressive as it ages and Fei Feng get pretty big. I'm considering SAE, MTS, otos and amano shrimp to get rid of the opaque stuff as well as keep algae in check. I'm I on the right track?

Yes you are on the right track. Those things will keep algae out and the SAE will eat the white stuff.

buy a bristlenose plec. i ahd some Lots of it it stretched a good cm off the wood sent in a pack of 2 bristlenoseat1-1.5 inch they doubled in size in under a month coz plenty of food.

Thanks for the replies. I have gotten rid of all the white fuzzy stuff now. What I did was adding a SAE and 8 amano shrimps and they ate it day and night like there's no tomorrow. They also ate all the algae that had been covering my plants in a period of 2 days. Best clean up crew ever:headbang2
