I have what appears to be a white algea, looks kind of like dust on the inside of my 150 gallon any ideas on what it is?

Is it all over the glass walls like algae? If it's a whitish film it's probably bacterial growth. Just scrape it off. It's non threatening. A white film on your fish is another story.

usually it is easily scraped off with a brush

ive had the same problem when i first set up my 180

water changes and time will do the trick

Agreed, it sounds like a little excess bacteria settling out of the water, just clean it out with a clean soft rag.

Is the white stuff the same thing you find in old tanks? It's kind of crusty and clings onto the pane?
