Ive been sturgeon fish for a few weeks now every time i hook one either my pole gives out or my line snaps i was thinking i was just getting snagged up but sence when dose a snag almost pull you out of the boat. Any tips for landing this beast that is destroying all my gear?

Get much bigger gear.

Bank or boating? I been a white sturgeon fisherman for a long time...and also my favorite species to target overall.

says you live in Indiana. Theres no white sturgeon around here. :screwy:

Get Stronger gear. Beef up line and LET THE FISH TAKE DRAG. :D

Yes i live in indiana but dose not stop me from traveling and tracking down these beasts their remarkable creatures. I have well had a custom elite 450lbs rod set with 300lbs test line and what ever had my took my like snapped the rod like it was a twig it was pretty scary but thrilling at the same time.

Sounds like you are horsing the fish if you are snapping 300lb line. I caught a 40" sturgeon last year on 10lb braid Med Heavy walleye rod. Just set your drag real loose. When it runs, let it run. Only reel in when the fish lets up slack.

These are large powerful creatures. On a rod, they feel exactly like a snag by slowly spooling out line. The trick is to have tons of line and a really good drag system that does not bind up. If your drag locks up for even a brief second, you are toast. If you are using braided line like PowerPro, make sure you have at least 10ft of mono as a leader so the line will give a little.

Like I said, patience. It took me over an hour to bring that sturgeon in but hey .. I was targetting walleye with that gear. Thank goodness for double trolling batteries so I could follow the beast. Michigan is fertile grounds for Sturgeons.

Well yeah the Stugeon here in Michigan have plenty of zebra and quaga mussels to eat. Along with lots of gobies as well. :D

That could be my problem. I think when i get that huge hit
I get over exited and dont think about what im doing. Ill give your suggestion a shot just let it run and hopefully with a little luck i can land this beast ill post pics if i manage to land him thanks for all your help.

I actually loosen my drag when I get a big hit. Then gradually increase a little bit at a time. When you are done fishing, loosen your drag all the way before putting to storage. This will minimize chances of locking and prolong your reel life.
