i hate the idea of a glass bottom tank, and i totally love black but everything says no black for FH's. so on the opposite end is white ok? i'm trying to avoid blue or pink, and river gravel doesn't interest me either.....or is glass bottom best?

I think the idea is too light and you wash the FH color out. Too dark and you make it too dark to see the fishes true colors. What kind of FH just a LFS grade? Are you using a background?

He would look good over any substrate though. I'm a black background over black sand guy but I think this turned out better than I could have ever imagined. It's just your personal preference. I don't think substrate plays a big role if you've got the right light and background on the tank.

ive been wanting pure white gravel very very small for a long time but i can not find any

where did you get yours from ?

I think I spent like $40 on it because I had to buy small bags but I got it at a store called "Pet Supplies Plus." Just about every fish store I've ever been to carries white gravel though. I've bought white gravel from a store called Meijer too.

you can also use crushed coral.

Check you PH first. For instance I have 7.5-8.0 ph right out the tap.. So I don't use it.
