Ive kept them a few times. They are hardy and depending on size and species, they will hold their own against cichlids. They have a tough skin and typically get ignored by other fish. I had rarely seen intraspecies aggression from white suckers in a tank. They learn to accept most foods fairly quickly. They are sensitive disease wise. Keep the water clean and moving. They might live in "run off" but ick and fungus will wipe them out quickly.
White suckers, IMO, are not really worth going into a small tank. They put out alot of waste and have the potential to get large. They are very common, have a large range and are commercially fished, not endangered so they are 100% legal
