Hey all.

I noticed that there is a white stringy thing hanging near the head of my Oscar. I'm pretty sure it's a parasite. There is also one hanging out of one of its gills.

I've done a partial water change, added salt, and increased the temperature to 82 degrees.

Can I get rid of this parasite by keeping clean water, or must I use medication?

Thanks.

Use medication just to be sure, add pima fix

I'm confident after seeing pictures that it could be anchor worms.

I have a question.

My filter has a bio holster, and my carbon is inside of my mechanical filter, so I'd have to remove the mechanical to remove the carbon.

Would my bio holster be able to take the ammonia load while I medicate the tank with the mechanical/chemical filtration removed?

Thanks everyone!

Any formalin based med should clear them up. You have to remove the carbon during treatment and do water changes until it's cleared up then you can put the carbon back in. I never use carbon in any of my tanks it isn't necessary if you keep up with weekly water changes.
