Hello all,

I was wondering if this is normal or not.

Cause when i stop my water pump from the sump tank to the main tank for cleaning.

I realise i actually saw those micros white small worm like structure wriggling about in the 2nd chamber of the sump tank.

My first chamber mainly consist of the inlet of tank water , along with stacks of sponge filters,

2nd is also sponge filter but of another kind ...
there is where the worms are ... their like 5mm to 1 cm long....

any idea if their harmful or good for the water ? :S..

I doubt it left over food . it mainly feeder fish adn s small pinch of pellets for my other hungry fish.

They aren't planaria, a lot of threads have described these worms. I had them myself in a few tanks. I can't quite remember the name now, but they seem to live in the filter and appear when it is cleaned or when the flow changes. My salvini fry would wait at the filter when I cleaned the pads to eat them up :)

usually from over feeding. Certain fish will eat them, many tetras will...there is too much uneaten food on the bottom. Feed less or stop for cpl days

They're nematodes. They will help maintain water flow through any sponges that are growing bio. I nuked mine and my aquaclear clogs a lot faster now. I'd keep them. As suggested, lighter feeding will reduce their numbers and they are absolutely NOT planaria. Distant cousin perhaps.

Meh. If you are heavily stocked you're probably going to have them, then. Until something wipes them out.

hmmm i have 4 kelberi, 1 silver arrowana , 3 blue chilid with white spot on their fin, 1 albino oscar , 2 normal pleco and a redtail cat.. in a 5"x2.5"x3" tank about 280 gallon size with bout 250 gallon water..

earlier i had more fishes like pacu and more oscar and chilid i removed them and gave them away, including driftwood with plants..

Just a huge tank with sand and stones.

How ever the worms only appear in the sump tank.. dont think im gonna put fish in there :S.. or it be hard to clean lol..

As for photos.. i think it possible to take photos.. their too tiny
