I wonder if its one of the Parrodon species of darter Characins.
There are a number of genera in S America.
We have one species here in Panama, Saccodon dariensus that looks a bit simlar, but not exactly the same.

I caught it in Rio Mamoni, in eastern Panama near the Darien, in fairly fast flowing water.
The one caught 1st (but let go), was about 6¨(I now regret letting it go).
The S American species have more solid color, dark bands along the fishes length

This is one of the situations where AI is actually useful. It says Leporellus vittatus, and I must agree.

Apparently they're sometimes sold as aquarium fish, although they have the CAE-type propensity to become aggressive if not kept in groups.
