I bought them as "Bristlenose Pleco."
I had three, I can't tell if they are all still there, I never see more than two at a time. They are in a heavily planted tank, with lots of wood.

They are camouflaged very well amongst the mopani wood.

I suspect they are responsible for this leaf?

Looks identical to the variant of bristlenose I have known as "calico" bristlenose. Basically they are line bred to have the orange and black coloration. If mine were more camera friendly I'd take a picture, but they are only about an inch and a half right now.

Edit: google pic:

Not a calico BN, and not responsible for your plant damage. Look at snails for that type of damage.

So, they are not the Calico BN's?

as far as the leaf, there were snails in the tank about a year ago.
I bought three botias to take care of them. They have done an excellent job, I see no more snails.

There is also a L. Joselimai in there, could he be the plant eater?

No pleco leaves a plant looking like that, nor do loaches. What else do you have in the tank, do you use fertilizer, how much light do you have, and how long do you light the tank? The first picture looks like snail damage. The last picture you sent, is a plant that is dying due to improper keeping.

Yes, the tank was neglected for a little while. I have brought it back around, for the most part. There are just Anubias and Crypts in there. 10 hours a day of light. I just use a dual strip fluorescent, although, I am now down to one strip. I broke one of the bulb sockets when I was removing the bulb to put a new starter in. It is a very old light. I use the Seachem flourish products, sparingly. I have recently increased the amount of excel.

Here is a shot of the tank. The back is open, so the plants can grow out;

sorry about the dirty glass. I replanted the crypt in the right front corner. Someone dug it up.

With a tank that heavily planted, you should be dosing the flourish ferts very regularly. The plants are lacking in their macro nutrients. All the excel in the world won't help a tank that doesn't meet the basic needs for the plants.

Hey, Thanks Wildfya,

I still have a lot of learning to do.I have been dosing pretty regularly. The tank will come around again. Its been running for 10 years or so.

Anyone else care to guess on the species of pleco?
