i found my gulper this morning with like a bite mark at the bottom of his jaws.
hes still alive and is just not as active.

if we are talking about a bagarius yareli
then there is your perpetrator
they are a vicious bunch of cats

I'd like to make a guess, but could you give more info. Like what size was the Gulper and what was the shape of the mark, was it rounded or triangular. Right off the bat I'm gonna say it almost guaranteed not to be the Aro or Perruno. Unless your gulper eats from the surface of the water or off the substrate(unusual for a gulper i think). I don't tthink it was the bagarius either. Despite havin a rep most cats seem to attack other fish from its flanks or rear during territorial disputes. Don't know what you mean when you say lap so I can't even venture a speculation on that one. I'd say it probably the Tilapia. They usually confont fish head on and face to face. I also think the gulper and the Tilapia would be more likely to go for the same food sources mid water an all. Well that's my attempt at deductive reasoning. It's fun to try to guess as I'm always doin it with my fish. Trying to figure out compatibility issues so if 2 fishies aren;t gettin along and I don't actually see the confrontation it's a guessing game tryin to figure out who to move.

lap = polypterus lapradei
i had a feeling it was the tilapia too.
but the damage was really too much for a tilapia to do.
the wound was rounded.
the gulper actually eats from the bottom most of the time or if the food flies into its mouth.

I'd guess it was the Poly that did the deed then. The perruno can be aggressive eater's, but in my experience at small sizes that isn't usually the case. They get more confident around the 6" mark. Again since the wound is rounded it shouldn't be someone with triangular mouths ie: Aro, tilapia. That leaves the senegals which are small and probably stay clear of the gulper or they would have been eaten. Down to two possible culprits the bagarius or poly. I'm guessin the bagarius isn't the culprit since as I've said before aggressive cats seem to go for the flanks and rear of the fish. Plus bein on the small side he would almost definetly go for a rear attack. My Aisan RTC was about 3" and nasty as heck, but would attack larger fish than himself from the rear. That leaves the poly who at that size could do quite a bit of damage if he an the gulper tried to consume the same food. They hunt in the same strata of the tank bottom to mid-water and would easily make a mistake and grab a hold of each other accidently. I'm sayin it was the poly.

the perruno is a pretty aggressive eater.
once accidentally ate one of the senegals and spat it back out.
the gulper also swallowed a senegal once and spat him back out.
poor sens. :grinno:
