The old lady and I are putting in our first offer on a house today, so that means i need to pack up the collosal pile of junk in the basement. Step #1 is cleaning the room for the first time in 3 years. Lol. A clean workbench is a sign of a dirty mind.
If MTV cribs came to my house I'd say the cliché: "this is where the magic happens" and direct the camera crew to my basement.
This is my 10x10 basement laundry room, detached from my 600sqft apartment. My landlord would flip if he came down here. Haha. I'm only 25, I've spent the last decade actively pursuing tools and various tool related exploits while my friends were going to the bar and picking up (really) bad habits. Not a mindblowing setup. But mine nonetheless and I'm proud of it. I believe the measure of a man lays in his ability to be self reliant, that means a man's gotta have a kickass garage and or basement.
Lets see where all the magic happens that's posted in the DIY forums!
i worked as a salesman for a major autoparts supplier for a few years. I was responsible for stocking and cataloging the inventory of large garages and the biggest dealerships in the area, doing this day in and out led me to get totally obsessive compulsive about my basement
Ive been through some really hard times the last few years. I built this workbench for under $20. The legs were scrap lumber, the backstop i used for drilling holes ties 2 of the legs together. The top is 2 large steel shelves i liberated from the warehouse at work. I painted it with leftover paint from redoing the bathroom upstairs.
Frankenstein toolboxes. Less than $200 invested in both. Randomly aquired sections assembled together.
The hardware store
this is no joke a file cabinet. I got it for free. Its about 30 years old and is built better than my craftsman toolbox lol. I Put 2 non swiveling wheels on it, and 2 rubber feet. It's mobile and holds most of my metal fab tools, and upon the crude bench top i have my drillpress, vise, and bench grinder.
ironically the most expensive tools pay for themselves everytime you use them
Ive been using a high cfm centrifugal fan for ventilation. I have it on some 6" dryer ducting, i have to disconnect my dryer and hook up my blower if i want to use the welder indoors. I cant wait to move and setup a legitimate welding bench with a hood and dedicated ventilation.
