Ok to start I'm going to list ALL the details so this might b a bit long. Thanks in advance to all of those who read/reply.

Someone in my tank is causing trouble. 500g setup and here is the list of all possible suspects including previous rap sheets, bio, and temperment.

19" female henlei. I've had her for a couple months and she likes to be petted during waterchanges. About 2 weeks ago I think she went after a gar one night because in the am my biggest gar was missing the fin and scales off his tail. She has no damage whatsoever.

17" cichla azul. I've only had her for a week but she's super fat, really calm and hasn't eaten yet since I've had her but she is really calm and alert and always comes to see me wherever I am. She has 2 scratches on her side that look like fingernail marks. Never been agressive toward anything.

13" African pike. She was with another smaller one she used to fight for food with but otherwise would just swim together. Her pal died a month ago. Never had any issues with any fish other than fresh shrimp. No damage.

15" Florida gar. Just a fatty, healing from the stingray attack, but swimming fine and almost 100%. Just a fat slow gar, aimlessly wandering.

14" Florida gar "hot dog". My daughter named him hotdog and I've had him well over a year and never a problem. The weirdest thing is he will relentlessly chase every new fish until he can push it to the bottom for a sec then he stops. He likes to eat from m y hand and he will let anyone pet him.

11" baby gar. This is a mean fish. I've never seen him go after another fish, but if any part of my body goes in the tank he will bite me. He will come straight over and I have to push him and he wont stop til her gets me. He's missing a good chunk of his front right fin.

10" baby gar. He's quiet and shy, and missing whole side fin and has scratch marks down his side.

What's doing this? They look like scratches and I can't imagine any of these fish doing this. My guess is the Satan baby gar, but he's missing a fin. My African pike I've seen get punked out by a 6" SA pike. Idk if I should try to separate or just wait a bit and see what happens? I feel for anything that wants to mess with that ray.

With what information is given, I have to say it is likely one of the gars is being aggressive. It's pretty common in my gars tanks for there to be nipped fins and the occasional bite mark on the gars or their tankmates. Usually it's nothing serious. Are all the gars floridas?

I think that there may be multiple offenders in this case based on the rap sheets that you've given us.

I'd guess that either the 14" gar or the 11" gar got the peacock bass based on their behavior. I also think that the 11" gar got the 10" gar; maybe it attacked it during feeding time? Lastly, I wouldn't trust the peacock bass for long and would expect injuries similar to the one inflicted on the one gar by the stingray in the future; I had an 18" Florida gar that looked as if it had gone through a meat grinder (all fins reduced to nubs, scratches on the body) because the previous owner kept it with Cichla.

If you want to know for sure. Get a camera and put on record and see what you come up with.

Ya I'm not sure, the bass might b freaking out and running into the driftwood. He has more scratches today. I'm thinking the mean baby gar is beating on the other gars and one of them fought back. It's weird tho because all the gar school together when one gets injured. Idk I've been trying to spy on them(not so easy). Anyone want to come over and stare at my tank till we figure it out? Lol

Has to be the ray, perfectly straight cut the gill plate on the mean baby gar20111203_210655.jpg20111203_210639.jpg
