My primary tank is currently a standard 6' 150 gallon. I'm running 8850 gallons per hour of current in this thing. This setup creates so much surface agitation that I have waves that are about two inches high in some places. They hit the lids! It works great for my toothy river characins and keeps aggression to a minimum. I run a bubbler too and between all of the current and the bubbles I get a frothy whitewater effect that my riverine fish love. I want to add another 3000 or so gph to this tank before I'm done.

I'm running-
Koralia 1400s x 2 = 2800
Marineland 1200s x 3 = 3600
Aqueon 900 x 1 = 900
FX5 x 1 = 650
AC110 x 1 = 550
Magnum 350 x 1 = 350
For a total of 8850 gallons per hour.

Here's a schematic showing my current setup. As you can see, I have all of them working together to get the maximum effect.

The only thing not pictured is my Magnum 350 outlet which is behind the three Marineland 1200's.

edit- I just realized that I put 2x Aqueon 1400s. D'oh. That's supposed to be Koralia 1400s. Dang midnight shift posts! >.<

Does anyone else have a strong current going in their tank? Even if it's not overkill like mine?

Wow. Thats a lot, but I'll bet your fish love it. Im moving about 2500gph through my sump of my 300 and had a pair of Koralia 1400's that both failed within 15 months of purchase. was going to replace them but ii seems some of my stock prefer a little less current.

I did run about 20x turnover in my 60 gallon loricariid growout though. They absolutely loved that much current.

My pumps run around 1500GPH only. But my 2 wave makers directed to my filter inlet each push 3000GPH. My wave makers are timed, though. They run a total of 4 hours each day only. This is for fish exercise and for regular cleaning. It also helps push water along the Java ferns roots for nutrient absorption. I have A LOT of aerators/bubblers as well. One that covers the entire back as a bubble wall and a center bubble tower. Keeps my water very clean and crystal clear. They also saturate the water with atmospheric air both for O2 for the fish and CO2 for the plants. Very beautiful too. I just had a 6 hours power loss today and my fish were hardly hit. Seems there's a lot of DO in the water.
