Does anyone have a fortune cichlid? They look really cool, but damn are they pricey! Ive seen 1 inchers at the store going for near 200 bucks, and 6 inchers for 800!!

Nope, all i know is it looks like a jack dempsey type cichlid and is covered in shiny scales. And the store owner said they are related to flowerhorns.
Flowerhorn developed by a guy name Rarefish, the ones you saw are way overpriced, you can get them cheaper. Look on the flowerhorn board, they have their own subection

moved this to Hybrids forum for you because the fortune fish is a hybrid. it is some type of flowerhorn, though then again almost all cichlid hybrids nowadays are referred to as some sort of flowerhorn with the exception of blood and jellybean parrots. I think the fortune fish might be some type of variant of the red texas but I could be wrong. 
Yeah, I think $200 for a 1" is over priced. Rarefish is from Taiwan. Fortune Fish are hybrids just like flowerhorn. It looks like the lineage came from Syns.

Well its a nice looking fish, I am intrested in getting one, just not ready to cough up such big bucks for one.
