just calling to all who has a black shark aka pangasius
what tank size and what size is your fish?

if i had a 80cm and 60 cm pangasius, what size tank should be ok for them?

I have 2 in my 750g. One is 24" and the other 20". They grow much faster than advertised so keep that in mind. The size tank you would need will vary depending on who is giving you the advice. Just keep in mind that bigger is better and be ready to upgrade because iridescents do not like to feel cramped and will become skittish if uncomfortable.

well, the ones im getting is already large
one is about 60 cms, the other is about 70 - 80 cms
what sort of depth and length should we look at for these two? the 60 cms shouldnt be difficult but the 80 cm one would need a larger home.
any tips on that? 24 inches is about 60 cms
so the bigger one is about 30 inches

what sort of tank can these go in?

WOW!! They are big cats. We have two at the moment but they are tiddlers compared to yours.
First of all. Do you have any other fish? Bare in mind that most catfish will swallow anything that can fit in their mouths.
As for tank size.Well both these fish have the potential to grow as large as 1 meter in length therefore you would need a tank to be at least this wide to allow turning space and for two that are nearing adult size , I would recommend a minimum tank size of 8 ft in length. These fish are also quite skittish and can dart around the tank , so obviously the bigger, the better..(10 ft would be perfect but understandbly expensive) Although height is not as nessassary as length and depth, this fish can(and will) jump.So something that is also quite deep and well covered should be sufficient enough.

Hope this helps.

yeah, beautiful too!
where i am from, they are so rare.... you wont believe it when i say that here in new zealand, you would be lucky to have more than 5 to 10 max in the country still alive - rumor has it that they were part of the last shipment years ago.

the biggest one is definatley sorter than the width of my tank front to back, with a little more room to spare, they havent grown for years, not even an inch. so i know they wont grow much more from their size. if they do, then i will upgrade, the thing is, they will stay in this home i have not, 8 foot not permanently , i actually want to make a huge monster monster tank, but not untill i buy a house, i have been asking everywhere if this tank is sufficient, and so far i have had a yes it is, length is key, then depth, then height.

the only fish if i put any would be giant gourami and a silver aro with them. nothing else, filtration is not a problem, i have plenty. i think with only one filter, custom made trickle the water turns over 6 times in one hour, then ill put another fluval fx5 in there, so the water will turn over 9 times to 10 times per hour :)

At the moment we have a 5 by 2 by 2 and a 3 by 2 by 2. We have one albino pangassi, who is tiny and in a tank with cichlids, a poly, fire eel, a bgk. This is my tank. The bigger one is my partners but we are currently upgrading his to a 6 by 3 by 2.He loves cats and has a small peruno and a 12" pangassi. He is also planning a giraffe nosed cat.
You are probably right about the pangassi not growing much more. I think they are one species that is true to the " fish only grow to the size of your tank" myth but I still think a more spacius tank would benifit them. So bring on a bigger house! Lol.

Aro's are beautiful fish. We're planning a couple of clown knifes ourselves. We recently rehomed a red x tsn cat because he feared it would out grow his tank. Not to mention eat the rest of his fish. I think he would have made a lovely addition to a tank your size.

really? I didn't know that.
Britian's quite lucky. We don't seem to have many restrictions on tropical fish. You can get pretty much anything here.
