Interested in some C. intermedia in the next year or so.

By the looks of things on here and the internet, 2007 was the last time they were available.

Some people that got them from this website said they thought they might try to breed them - so Im wondering.

Who has intermedia? Is anyone breeding? And if not, how come there arent anymore coming in?

Thanks

Good luck! Everyone is wanting some intermedia! The only person who may have a breeding pair is Michael in germany.

Do you know the reason why they arent being imported anymore?

This thread: (http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-65311.html) makes it seem as if they were going to be common - but after this there is no mention of them again.

Sad to hear/see this. Wondering why?

johnptc even suggests that his might breed - and that is a guy who definitely has the setups to do so.

Just putting feelers out. If for nothing else to learn why they are no longer being imported, and also to maybe see anyone's who's out there.

They are probably found in a dangerous or hard to reach area or are in a country that bans their export.

I agree - those seem to be the most likely culprits, but how was it stable enough in 2007 to import "thousands" and now nothing?

In addition to that they seem to be spread throughout the Orinoco - which is a pretty large area: http://www.fishbase.org/summary/46777

....and how is it none of those thousands were raised to be bred?

+1 - reason I didnt mention that is that it IS fairly difficult to breed bass because of the way most people keep them (lots of different kinds, lots of different colors all in one tank).

Not conducive to breeding.

Maybe everyone thought there would be more after the success of the first import.

Do you think that if someone went specifically for intermedia that people would be willing to preorder?

Well,of course those who keep cichla in mixed bag, variety type displays wouldnt expect to have much breeding going on but those who know what a premium species of cichla that intermedia are and wanted to attempt to breed them for profit would know better than to house them with other fish.Hard to believe it hasn't been attempted by someone out of all of those fish brought in.
