I have a 16 month old pair of Tiger Oscars and I had them attempt to breed a month ago and thankfully they ate the eggs the next day cause I wasn't prepared for it and since then I have kept a close eye on the temperature of their tank and watch their behaviour to make sure it doesn't happen again, now I'm wondering is it fair to keep them together as a non breeding pair or should I think about putting them in different tanks ?

Unfortunately the only way to keep them from breeding but not stressed out of their minds is to keep them in separate tanks, which involves two very large tanks.
Anything else would put lots of stress on the oscars, stress that would turn into aggression against each other.
May I ask why you don’t want to breed them?

Maybe it's the fact that there is no market around where i live for Oscars mine were actually rescues that someone didn't want and no one interested had a big enough tank for them and I did a roomy 4x2x2 120g ! And there actually is no aggression or stress between them since the temperature isn't close enough to the breeding trigger temperature of 80 heck the heater isn't even on and it is still at 75 ! Secondly I don't have several 100g+ tanks for several hundred fry !20210418_200436.jpg

duanes duanes may know some stuff about preventing breeding, but as far as I know, the only way is to separate them.

Why stress over it? They already ate their first clutch. To me i wouldnt even be worried about surplus oscars til they show me they have successfully raised them to a month old fry then i will worry about it.

Do what some keepers do. Steal the eggs. IMO rather have females keep laying eggs to prevent eggbound issues

You could reduce feeding to every 3rd or 4th day so that neither becomes conditioned for breeding. Be sure not to feed until full on feeding days. A few days of not eating won't harm oscars that old already.
