im getting a pro 3 2180 (not 2080) thermo l8er this month. is this a good idea? tank is a 180 and will also get a pair of rena Xp4s

The pro 3's are great filters, but lack in mech filtration on their own. The addition of 2 Hydro V's on the intakes will help, or an FX5 will also work well. Skip the XP4 as it is not nearly as good in the mech arena as the FX5 (few filters are) and not even close to the bio arena that the Pro 3's inhabit (few filters are for this filter as well).

I’ve got 2 pro 3 thermos and they work great...I did replace the white foam because it clogged up to fast, I had to clean them every day. I replaced them with other foam and now they work great.

What WyldFya said.

I had a 2080 on my 220 gal, and the filtration performance was very disappointing. It's hooked up to my 75 gal now, and it works well. Still, it's not a filter that I'd buy again. The Classic line (sorry, no built-in heater) is IMO the biggest bang and it even costs the least.
