Okay on march 22nd, I'll be meeting up with Mr. R1 Ridah to pick up my 13 inch Orion. It will be traveling roughly 6 hours. What is the best way for me to transport it and have it arrive in perfect shape? I was thinking of either putting it in a rubbermaid tub and having a airpump and heater running or I was actually just going to bag it with lots of oxygen in the bag. I was also going to heatpack it. Let me know. thanks.

I've transported 10-22" peas from miami to orlando which is 4 hours, not including the other 10 hours we spent fishing. the best thing to do is to get them in as much water as possible, biggest container you have, have a cycled sponge filter, or a couple air pumps in the bin. there was no need for heaters due to its florida and its already pretty warm.

I know this is not a long drive...but i just pick up 5 pbass today range from 11-16" putting them in a cooler. 2 in one and other 3 in one cooler. I've bring bag buddy and it's all in perfect shape and defect at all.

i would get the cooler. it keep the temp in place, bring bag buddy and oxygen pump.

I had my tems shipped with in box heaters n big bags I would say thats the best way to go

well bro... the best thing to do is exactly what you have planned already,, as in tranporting in a container with heat and alot of oxygen ( air stones,, maybe like 3 ) the more oxygen the better,, depending on your gallons of water under dose it with stress coat!! and you will be fine.... when you get home definitly acclimate as long as you can or until your comfortable with the circumstances that the pea will bring you!! best of luck!!

you can do all of the above or just straight bag him with lots of o2 and stick him in a cooler with heat packs.. its up to you

Have we seen these cock bass yet:) Pics plz

I've shipped a couple of good sized peas and they are in the bags for as long as 24 hours before being released. I've used a fish tranquilizer in the process and I think it makes a big difference.

Use a large ice chest. Drop in an airstone powered by a battery run pump. Add Bag Buddies, a PolyFilter or AmQuel to neautralize ammonia. Perhaps add a tranquilizer.

6 hours should be a breeze!

Post pics when you get him settled in!!

I sold my 10" azul to a guy that picked it up around 3pm, went back to his hotel where it stayed in the cooler overnight with an air stone and a heater, then he made the 10 hour drive back to Orlando the next day.

I believe coolers are superior to bags because you can add more water so it will concetrate with ammonia less quickly and will hold it's temp better. Even if you get a big bag, if it's closed, you want to add as little water as possible so there is more space for O2. I'd also use some Prime for ammonia.
