I've got a pair of Trachycorystes who've been teasing me with mating embraces but still no babies.
The courtship is a bit rough on the female as the male bites her in his attempt to capture her as these guys seem to fertilize internally. The male has a genital papilla that in the embrace he seems to insert. Successful pair entanglements involve the male biting the females whiskers and jaw while simultaneously wrapping his dorsal fin over the top of her body after which he then inserts his papilla. The female ceases struggling and her grunts of complaint and the fish slowly descend to the bottom side by side. After a brief period the female suddenly thrashes freeing herself and swims away. They do this in mid to upper water while feeding which is odd as I have deco that is pipe like and big enough for both to squeeze into side by side. As a matter of fact they nestle near one each other all the time when not patroling, on occasion arguing over elbow room with their grunts. Yet they don't seem to ever attempt courtship in there. Also when they do entangle afterwards the female seeks shelter in other deco, I suppose to avoid the still amorous male.

Other than that I have some Pseudauchenipterus nodosus who have also shown signs of breeding but I foolishly thought it was aggression and promptly split them up. Only to immediately realize what I had done. it was a real
