Now that the price increase is going into effect, I've cancelled my 2-DVD plan and kept the streaming only. I'm not about to put up with a 33% price increase that's motivated by nothing other than greed. They aren't exactly 'hurting' either. Revenue and net income have been steadily increasing, with $2 billion in revenue and $160 million in net income for 2010.

So with streaming only and Vudu's high quality HD streaming pay-per-view, I have my movie needs covered. Anybody else dump portions of their plan, or dump them all together?

I've never had netflix, not even sure how they work to be honest. I'm actually gonna get netflix any time now. What do you guys recommend?

maybe someone can brief me, basically what netflix gets you is unlimited movies from their selection that I can watch thru my ps3 for a fixed amount per month correct? i wasn't exagerating about be a noob, i am a total netflix noob

Yup that's right. It's $8 a month for unlimited streaming to your tvs and computers. The 2-DVD package adds $12 to that, so $20 total. I was paying $12 for that same package, then $15. Now they want $20 and I said to hell with them. Not all the movies that are available on DVD can be streamed though. That's how they get you.

Another thing I don't like is the PS3 interface. You can't browse all the movies in each category like you could if you go online. You can search by name, but not browse. So you have to use your computer to get a full listing, they cap it at 75 titles per category. On your computer you can then add it to your queue, then watch it on your tv.

ah ok, i get it about the dvd thing. oh well, i'm going with the $8/month when i get it because I'm getting ready to cancel showtime as soon as Strikeforce comes over to the ufc and they stop airing on showtime. I'll be picking up hbo maybe, for the boxing and netflix

quick question, can you record with the dvr when playing a netflix movie?

There is a reason I will keep the mail service. I have to add that Starz does not plan to renew the contract w/ netflix which will cut the streaming library more than 50% so you may look into dropping them altogether if all you have is streaming.

Hmm I didn't know that. Is Starz doing something on their own since they're not renewing?

I'm pretty sure that Starz wants an exorbitantly larger fee from Netflix which is why they're not renewing.

Netflix makes way more off of streaming than they do with the DVD/Blu-ray plans, so why wouldn't they push people towards streaming with these new split plans with higher costs? You'll notice that the streaming library is mostly crappy filler movies, and the few good movies available are constantly in flux. Basically, Netflix knows that people are lazy and will choose to be able to watch some crappy movie instantly rather than wait a few days for what they really want to watch hence the split plans; it's basically the same mentality that goes along with YouTube and forums (instant info/entertainment that might not be the best vs. info/entertainment that takes time to get but is usually better).

Personally, I've got the 2 Blu-ray disk and streaming plan now and might actually drop streaming because of the Starz situation and the fact that I've watched pretty much all of the good movies that they have for streaming (most of which are through Starz, too).

yup rely thinkin about canceling all together. the watch instantly selection sucks

im prob just going to do the free 30 day trials every once in a while

I dropped netflix altogether. I simply hit up redbox if I want a new release instead of the fight and hassle to see if Netflix will send it to me....
