Fairleigh Dickinson pieced together five straight titles from 1988-92. Saint Francis (PA) won four in a row before Monmouth ended the Red Flash run in 2005. Now, the Hawks are looking to become the latest NEC team to four-peat when the Northeast Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships commence this weekend (February 9-10) in Landover, MD.
Monmouth has a deep squad of potential scorers, but must also ensure that it gets points at the top from men like Christian Keller (Matawan, NJ/Matawan) and Ed Skowronski (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan). The two senior Hawks are both amongst the conference's best in the shot put and weight throw.
Keller appears poised to keep the shot title in Hawk hands. Last year's third-place finisher has shown the ability to capture the crown that teammate Nick Williams held a year ago, hitting the conference's biggest throw (17.10m/56'1.25") this season his last time out. He also is seeded third in the weight with Skowronski one spot ahead.
