Okay.. I recently put togethor a tank of ancients/preds..

6-7" Jardini
8-9" Senegalus, Albino Senegalus
12" Ornate Polypterus
12" Clown Knife
4" Ctenopoma

Someone was beating the clown knife up at night.. tattered fins, got his dorsal fin pretty good.. had to isolate him.. I figured it might of been the Jardini or Ornate at night giving him a problem over a hiding spot or something.

Now I am noticing a slight nip on the tail of the Albino Senegalus..

I think my Jardini is too young to do any damage, and he seems to keep to himself.. If he wanted to swallow the smallest Ctenopoma, he could, so could the ornate bichir.. but they haven't yet.

Is my Ornate Bichir giving everyone hell at night? I have heard a few splashes after lights out, but I figured it was the CK or Arowana getting rowdy at the surface.

I was informed this Ornate Bichir only ate goldfish before I got him.. I have starved him out for a week trying to get him to eat krill.. Is he getting impatient and trying to snack on his tankmates?

:feedback:

Some feedback would be appreciated! Especially on Ornate Bichirs aggression!

I belive your right miles the only fish its seems it could be is the ornate. I say jardini but it is way to small..

i think ornate

Yeah, jardinis are the devil in aro form. Although if it's only happening at night...One of my Ornates was a pretty bad night biter.

Been watching the tank for days. almost positive it' not the Jardini.. Hes the only 'swimming' fish, other then the Ctenopoma, and he ignores them.. I could see a Jardini taking out a scomberoides though.

I think it's my ornate.. He's just sitting in one spot out in the open with his nose up.. Waiting for live prey I think.. I think he just got the CK and Senegalus confused or something?

They aren't territorial are they?

They certainly can be. Ornates seem to be the most aggressive upper jaw species from what I've read of other peoples experiences. Personally, I have 8 ranging in size from 8"-19" with absolutely no problems. I HAVE seen 4" Jars wreak some serious havoc too.
If you've been watching the Jar carefully and seen no problems, then I would say it's probably the ornate.

sometimes a jardini wont do anything when youre watching them.
but when youre not...dum dum dum... :D
ornates are not nessecarily (my spelling sucks.) the most aggresiive.
theyre more like the most blind.
thats why they tend to nip at things.
when i first put my ornate in the tank,he nipped anything that swam past him.
but he eventually learned the other fishes were not food and left them alone. :)
