I got him in a tank of assorted young africans, is this guy a demasoni? I wasn't sure.

anybody =[

looks like a kenyi to me

thanks =] aren't blue kenyis usually female? aren't the males either orange or yellow?

ah i see, I figured it was something a bit funny, seeing as I've always heard that many kenyis are mix bred unless you really know the breeder and the way they work. are the female kenyis as mean as the males? i have pretty mellow cichlids, all bigger than him he's a little guy and 1.5 inches not quite 2. they are fascinated with watching it swim around, but no one not even my larger firemouth bothers it at all. do you think it's going to turn out to be the aggressor? he's more of the loner of the tank at the moment.

They are one of most aggressive ones of all. I would say that will be trouble. May not be a hybrid, just really inbred! You will have problems in the future, unless you have a large tank!

well i have a really young parrot too, so i was planning on moving him to a tank as he grows. i think i'll stop myself there, because i was about to ask if they'd be fine together, but with the size of a parrot and the beak i doubt that would do well either lol. idk, when he becomes a problem, i may trade him to this amazing shop owner i know. i bought this one impulsively when i saw him, thinking it was a demasoni[don't ask why, my brain doesn't always function when i see a pretty fish lol], so i thought i'd be fine. but i'll either get him his own tank or trade him later on.

they don't get too large correct?

I dont think the fish in the pic is a kenyi. If it is its a hybrid for sure. It is the same blue as a female but the stripes are totally wrong. I think it is some other mbuna. I seem to recall seeing a similar fish in Cichlid forums profile pages but i cant remember what it was. It was light blue with very dark thin vertical stripes, lots of them too. I would scan all the mbuna there, especially the metriclima species(zebras). Its likely in there. Just wont be any fun looking for it. LOL
