Hello everyone!

I have a 90 gallon planted discus tank, but I also have some "other" friends: 2 elephant nose, 1 dwarf German ram, 2 bushynose pleco (now 1:uhoh:), 1 giant blue shrimp, 11 marbled hatchet fish (now 10!), & 3 Siamese algae eaters. I woke up this morning to a dead hatchet fish AND a dead (sucked dry! :WHOA:) bushynose pleco. Who is wreaking this havoc in my tank? So very odd....

Is it the dwarf German ram? The discus (3-4")? It's definitely not the elephant-nose... The bushynose was quite small, for the record (2"). And the dwarf German ram is getting mighty big for his britches (and for being a dwarf). I suspect him.

Thanks for helping me solve this mystery (tragedy?:grinno:)

Best, C

SAE can be mean lil buggers. Ive had to remove them from tanks before because when little they do eat algae but as they grow they tend to do to 2 things. 1. They get lazy and realize a meal can be had of slime coat from other fish and 2. They get aggressive. Id look for signs of aggression from them first

Agree

+1 I just had to remove mine because he was stressing out the other fish.

Another possibility is that those 2 might of died from some other cause(s) and was fed upon after it was dead.

SAE's are evil. Get rid of them and go with Otos instead.

I have one in my 225 and they are fine. I hear they work well in groups of 5+ to disperse aggression and have a heirarchy. at least in my tank size I could attempt that

Thanks everyone... Wow, I had no idea about the SAE! The bushynose was doing great --- so unfortunate. As for the other little guy, he wasn't eaten (just floating) and he was new to the tank. The SAE I have are pretty small though (1.5"). You think they ganged up on poor 'ole bushynose or what?
