I did not see such thread from the whole ten pages I browsed so I decided to make this thread where Gar keepers can share about their Gar Fish. Let's share the species, the name you have given them, how long you have kept them, the size, their temperament, tank mates if any as well as diet. You can share anything else you would like to, like the tank size for example. Oh don't forget to post some pictures too.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Species: I just baught him about 3-4 days ago, after realizing I had baught an Alligator Gar I rushed back to the LFS and traded with this guy. What Species? I still am unsure, but either a Florida or a Spotted Gar, I am going with the Florida Gar though. You may give your opinion.
Name given: Phobosuchus ( Meaning Crocodile Terror after the name of the biggest Crocodile ever lived, sizing up to 50 feet long. A nice art of it below )
Size: About 6 inches long.
Temperament: A pretty peaceful guy, such a swimmer too. If he's not hunting and just cruising around he is doing the "fighting my shadow" at a corner of the tank which gives him a good work out. Speaking of being a hunter he is a good one, always gets it and makes sure his tummy is not empty. Swimming with grace closing up the distance between him and the feeder and bam! swings his snout sideways like a Croc! and slowly takes it whole from the head. ( Haven't seen him directly striking at feeder, often hear a splash and see him with a feeder already caught taken into the jaws of the Phobosuchus! )
Tankmates: A Climbing Perch & a Polypterus Ornatipinnis.
Diet: Since I just baught him, he has just been having the feeders that you can see in the pictures below ( non fancy guppy ). I tried some krill and not sure if he ate them.
