I was thinking about keeping a koi or 2 in my 240 with the arowana. I love the bright colors and against a black background and substrate I think it will look pretty nice. I know koi are hardy and grow big, but would keeping them in a tank be a good idea? I don't suppose they are picky eaters so I'm thinking they would clean up the arowana leftovers.

I know there are a lot of expensive and rare koi out there...post some pictures if you have them!

If you know of a good koi website, post that up too please:D

i remember seeing an writing about this somewhere, cant remember where tho unfortunately. i thought about this too. google your question and you should get some good results.
i remember a good reason for not doing it being the winter spells and how they are beneficial to the koi and in a tank they obviously wont get this cold spell. and i think koi are cold water, i may be wrong as im not even at the level of koi novice, so the heat needed for the aro's health will be detrimental to the koi's.

No offense or anything but don't goldfish/Koi tend to poo a lot and same thing with plecos?

I have a few koi,
they're hardy as heck
crap like hell
they get huge
and they're in a cold water tank of my mother's

i think koi are meant for pond life, to tell you the truth.
i don't think their living environment is compatible with that of an arowana.
but i'm not precise on that.

Ive got a friend thats got a koi in with her silver aro, hes does a heck of a good cleanup , and yeah they poop everywhere, but he eats all the leftovers and looks great

Some koi keepers keep their ponds perm heated to 18 degrees C as they believe its healthier for them. They also farm a lot of them in Israel. I've seen photos of a massive operation out there. It gets HOT there.

My mom keeps koi in her tank. She has a monster pond and when her koi bred she put the babies in the tank. They are 6" long now. When they get huge she will just put them in her pond. They are pretty in a tank. Most especially her Blue butterfly koi. The Canary yellow ones are pretty awsome too.

Plecos and oscars are on my "do-not-own-because-they-poop-too-much" list. Sounds like I should add koi as well.

Good idea to decide against keeping them. Yes, they do excrete heavy amounts of wastes. So do goldfish and loricariids.:) Add to that the fact, koi are coldwater and may be unable to mix well with tropical species such as the arowanas. If either species' requirements are met, the other side simply suffers the consequences.
