Hi MFK friends I am thinking of acquiring a Tomocichla Tuba. They look so cool and different and have never heard of one before. There is any info on it so if anyone has a care sheet or any info please do share. Also are they rare? and if anyone has any please share so photos!

I had tuba about 8 or more years ago. Started with 7 juvies in a 150 gal with a 1200gph pump.
In hindsight I should have doubled the pumpage, as they are rapids dwellers, and believe this will temper aggression.
I saw them in Costa Rica in very fast flowing shallow water, with rocks breaking the surface, they would dive under the rocks and disappear with approach.
Ended up with 3 males, that I gave to a friend who had a large female, she killed 2 males and mated a few times with the remaining male before killing him, and I ended up with a few fry that killed each other. They are good in a community with small noncichlids, but seem to reguard other cichlids as threats and treat them as such, and are quite capable of fast, lethal, retribution .

Like aclockwork I now have seiboldi, juvies so far

and some Tomocichla asfraci fry.

I have a 2400gph pump running the asfraci tank, and do daily water changes. With this regime, so far, so good.

Do you find them similar duanes? Tuba seem like suped up sieboldii. But obviously I haven't been able to keep any. BTW sign me up for fry if you get the asfraci to breed down the line.

As you probably know, the seiboldi are fairly aggressive with each other, much like my tuba were, even at the size mine are, 2"-3".
There is some controversy at the moment about whether seiboldi actually belong in the genus Tomocichla, this remains to be seen.
The asfraci are only 1"-2" so far, and at this point, have not been aggressive. I have them fighting a strong current, which I think keeps their focus on feeding and movement, not each other.
I had a pair of adult asfraci spawn a few years ago, but just after eggs were put down, one killed the other, and promptly ate the eggs.

If I end up with a pair, and later fry, I will make them available.
