I am in the market for a new 540 gallon tank. I live in the midwest, and need a recommendation on where to go to get one built. Someone suggested Innovative Plastics Inc (IPI) in Michigan, and someone else suggested Glass Cages. Any input out there? THANKS!

I've heard good things about glass cages but don't know if they make acrylic tanks

I can't let these comments go without giving my experience with them. I got a quote for a Tenecor tank from them. The salesman called me a month later and quoted a much lower price, if I was willing to have the back of the tank constructed in two pieces of acrylic, and not one, and he would throw in discounted shipping. It was an offer I could not pass up. I was bragging on this forum about my Tenecor tank I had purchased, when a Tenecor rep PM'd me and said they had no record of an order for my tank. It turns out I had the bait and switch tactic pulled on me. My tank was made by a builder in Florida. I bought the tank in good faith. I checked the second quote again, and discovered "Tenecor" was not there. There was NO name given. While the saleman said the back would be constructed in two pieces, he FAILED to mention that the top and bottom would also be constructed out of two pieces of acrylic. How he got around that was be stating in the quote that the front and sides would be constructed out of one piece of acrylic. I guess I was supposed to deduce that everything else not specifically mentioned could be constructed in two or three or however many pieces they felt like using. When I received the tank, I was horrified to see the bottom was two pieces fused together. The salesman's comment was, "Well, it's going to covered with sand or gravel anyway." My tank is going to be bare bottom, and I haven't decided what I'm going to do, because I can't stand the sight of that joint.

So if you are given a Tenecor quote, and later given a quote for less, be very careful. If the quote doesn't say Tenecor (even if all you talked about was Tenecor) it will be built by some unknown, unnamed builder, and the name will not be on the quote. Also their "lifetime" warranty is actually a very limited warranty that every year goes down. If the tank fails because of a structural failure, they may or may not replace the tank...and you may have to ship it back at your expense. I spent a lot of money on my tank. When it is finally set up, if it doesn't hold water, I am sure that I will have to eat the whole loss. When it comes to this company, BUYER BEWARE.

I've been doing my research for awhile now on custom tanks ( as this is the first big purchase I want to make when my husband and I get our own place) And tenecor has been my number 1 builder so far. I've heard both good and bad about them and glass cages. But imo tenecor delivers a more polished product. and Generally when peopel are looking into acrylics of that size your looking for a show peice.. not just "servicable" otherwise if your looking more down that route I'de do some major reading in the DIY threads for some nice home-built set-ups ( which yes some will rival the nicest acrylics imo too)

no matter what company you go with like pacu mom alluded too I think.. do your homework, and read the fine print.

I did not buy from fishtanks direct and am glad I did not. The only problem I have with tencor is there is no lifetime warranty on there tanks unless you have the tank on there stand.
