I have a reeflo barracuda and it's loud. It's in the basement and i can hear it 2 floors up. I use one pump for my returns. I think I'll go with 2 smaller pumps so it's one pump for each return.

So makes the quietest pumps? I had someone tell me Blue line is quiet. Any thoughts?

thanks

The quietest that I've dealt with is the reefflo dart. I've got a little giant that screams compared to it.

I have a reeflo barracuda and can hear it 2 floors up. It's not quiet. I might sell it and get 2 smaller submersible pumps instead.

are you sure it's just not a bad pump? The loudest pump I've ever had was a quiet one 9000 (made all sorts of noise) and I couldn't hear it in the next room. I can't imagine a pump so loud that you'd hear it through 2 floors unless it was gas powered or something lol.

Reeflo is quiet if it's a Dart.... The larger ones get louder.

Bluelines and Eheims are quiet (silent), but they don't move as much water. Basically, though, it comes down to how much water you need to move. Any of those three would be a good choice. A Dart would starve for water in some setups.

I saw your post with your filter, and I immediately thought that pump must be loud! Remind me how much water your sump gets fed, and I'll recommend a pump for you.

Well, I'm not sure in gallons. But right now the 2 drains are 1" and are being joined into a 2" line. I was told to give each line it's own 2" line to the sump that sits in the basement below about 12ft away. Is that enough info.

Also, this pump is loud. I'm looking at using 2 mag 12s or mag 18s for the returns. I' know their quiet and each return will have it's on pump. Is that a good idea?

No, not the mags, they make noise if run as dry application - always! Blueline are silent if you are using the high-flow type, not the high-head type. if you have no mechanical filtration inline, and are just pumping water straight up 12' I would get the Bluelines or Coralife Turboseas, the "P" series are silent. Just installed 5 580P's on a customers 5 set-ups, they are each used to run on LFGD M-2's. That is a 30" double pleat mechanical filter. They are all silent. Head is limited to about 4-5', 8' on one tank as well as the head of the mechanical filters. I would have bought bluelines, but the CRLF's were more easily attainable at the time. They replaced the following: Iwaki 40 (somewhat loud = high head), Iwaki 40, Iwaki 40RLT (relatively quiet, blueline equivalent is quieter), Little Giant 5, Little Giant 5 (loud).

I am now using 2 of the Iwaki's on my home system. The high head is used solely to pump water from the basement filtration up one floor to the 210. The low head Iwaki draws from one sump, pushes through mechanical, and dumps on to the bio tower at about 4'.
