Hey Everybody,

Here is my tank stock:

2 Disbar Anthias
4 Blue Chromis
1 Naso Tang
1 Convict Tang
1 Tomato/cinamon clown
1 Royal Gamma
3 Fire fish

One of these fish has chewed the fins of disbar anthias. This was before the addition of gamma and after the addition of the clown.

Which one do you guys think is the culprit? As I have the trap ready and woudn't want to get rid of the wrong one.

Given it couldnt be the Gramma, im going to say clown. Tangs might get aggressive, but they try to spike, as opposed to nip or bite.

It might also be the other Anthias, if they are both males.

I agree with Heathd, Clown is likely, Or the other Anthias, as he said males don't get along (females dont really either... but gennerally less problems) tangs not so much since those are two of the more passive ones... that said, if they don't have a enough algea to eat its possible they would get more pissy (if you dont have lots of algae growth in the tank you should always have some nori on a clip for them to pick at, as they graze ALL day). Do you have a breeders box (Tupper ware with holes works)? As you could "remove" the supposed culpret, by putting him in said box and seeing if the agression continues. But grand scheme of things the only way to tell for sure is to catch them in the act.

Thanks for the info,

Well trap has been placed...time for the waiting game. This is a "problem" clown as my tank is the "Tash Tank" where my cousin's unwanted fish, rocks, inverts and supplies are given to me. This clown picked on another clown in the tank it came from. This clown was mine back when I had the agressive tank....I worried he would be a meal for a hugry lion fish.

Well it looks like that possibly it's the clown because I doubt that the anthias are both males mainly because thier always near eachother and woudn't the fighting start months ago IMO?

I like how the naso, convict, diamond goby, chromis and huge hermit crab go in it but not the clown lol

What size is the tank these fish are in? Based on the minimal information provided I would say the clown is most likely, tomato clowns are known for their aggression.

Unless they look super diferent (usually) the anthias are the same sex (male generally brighter/bigger) and yes they would have faught since intro.

The tank is near 75 gallons, '

Just waiting for the clown to go in the trap....the naso, convict, diamond goby and a chromis were in it at the same time....no clown

Whoa, your problems are territory related between the tangs/clown. There isn't anyway to know which is responsible without witnessing the behavior. Were you planning on an upgrade soon? Naso tangs shouldn't be housed in anything less than 120 gallons preferably 180+. The only tangs you should even consider in a tank that small are bristletooths or tominis. Don't construe me as "flaming" I am just saying that Tangs stress easily in small tanks. They are extremely active and some, like the naso, get quite large.

Yeah, I know about naso getting large, apparently thier slow growers according to max reef..which is my lfs.
I would like to upgrade however I can't....but pretty soon the naso is going to go.
