I was messing around with some 1x4 pieces and glued them, didn't even use a clamp or screws. This thing is solid, a humpback whale could sit on it, imagine having 4 of these corners and extras in the center. I'm going to make 6ft stand with 1x glued. I was going to use 1x4 but can never find any that aren't bent, twisted or warped, so I'm going to use 1x3 instead. All the over-builder DIY'ers are going to say you need to double and triple it up with 2x 4, 6, 8, etc. 1x is plenty strong I'm finding and you can always add more wood if you need to for extra stability. Instead of 3/4 plywood, I'm going to use only 1/8 just to prove the strength test. I do have some 3/4 and 1/2 just in case. The days of clearing rain forests just to build a cabinet are long gone, today it's about efficiency and doing more with less. Less is more and better IMHO. I"m done using 2x. 1x are a little more expensive, but worth it.
Besides, I've seen others use 1x on their stands and the commercial stands are built with 1x. We should make it a MFK trend, use 1x instead of 2x. Yeah I know, you feel real Chuck Norris like when you kill 20 trees to make some 2x4's, I get it.
