This weekend I picked up a 240g 8'x2'x2' tank. My ac went out on my truck so by the time I made it home it was unload and retreat into the cold house. We put the tank on the back porch (hadn't made room inside yet). The next morning I got caught up in family stuff, so it was around noon when I had a chance to get out back and spend some time with my new toy. This is what I found:WHOA::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:. 07251744a.jpg 07251744.jpg07251747.jpg
The only thing I could figure out was the sun heated up the tank and cause a weak spot to split. The glass had to be 300 degrees. So as you can see cutting off the bottom isn't an option (bracing all around inside bottom) I am thinking to laminate the bottom w/2 layers of 5/8" marine grade plywood, and cover the inside bottom w/ 1/4" plexi. Any other suggestions or tips?

i would use thicker plexi than 1/4'' just to be safe imo.

The plywood should take all the stress. the plexi would just be there to be able to seal all the cracks in the glass. Similar to the way multi piece bottoms are constructed. I have a few DAS tanks made this way.

Anyone have suggestions?

Man that is heartbreaking.
