The Crunch
Yesterday was a sad day. Firstly it was one of those days where EVERYTHING went wrong. Then when i finally dragged my butt home from work, i thought 'hey, why dont i go check out what my fish are doing?' that always cheers me up.. Looked for my female oscar El Vira, finally found her at the back of the tank inbetween the glass and orange rock formation, looking sick again (i have been treating the tank for a possible parasite invasion but after that didn't work i had been planning to set up their old 2ft and turn it into a hospital tank and treat for fungus instead but she had been improving) and someone (???) has taken nasty bites out of her left flank! :irked:
Ok, so time to set up the 2ft, like now..
Got it cleaned up and started filling but now there is a crack spreading across the bottom!
Madly searching for a tank, all that is in the house atm not already taken up is our old oollld 1ft :(
So i thought, have dinner and meditate on it. Looked over halfway through and La Vey is nearly white with rage, gills flared fins spread and mouth gaping, ready to take a huge piece out of his old tankmate's face while she cowers helplessly on the gravel:eek:
I am well aware of how slack this is but the only option was to set up the 1ft and move her before she gets eaten and every fish in the tank gets a nice warm bellyfull of whatever it is that she has!
Whilst setting it up, i looked over and what is floating around my tank?? One of our three large bristlenoses, skin on its face bitten (or sucked??) off and no tail fin
So removed said bristlenose, finished setting up hospital tank, moved El Vira and went to bed..
This morning, went to check on fish and found a second bristlenose, obviously dead for a number of hours with nearly all skin removed!!!
What the hell?
So the question is this: was it La Vey our other original oscar mad with rage because she is sick & doesn't wanna do oscar stuff? A parasite? Fungus?? Our jd pair, ready to breed again and trying to clear up some tank space??? Either of our two plecos??? Our little texas??? Or the last bristlenose standing????
Included is a pic of the pair of Oscars in the happy time... Sorry for the long sad post...

that was a long post.
sorry things are rough, hope things get better with some of your fishes!

thanks man sorry about the lengthy post forgot to write load warning i was just caught up in the emotion.. Nah there is good news my red devil babies are free swimming and surprisingly all the other fish in that tank are fine as well so i guess its not all bad..

Man, my condolences go out to you and your fishy friends...

She was a good wet pet, a fun wet pet...

And she will be greatly missed...

I know she cant be replaced but maybe some jag fry could try and fill the void???:footinmou

sorry for your loss..you had what i consider a nightmare... terrible to find all this happening in your tank... hope it gets fixed and all goes back to peaceful and healthy... good luck to you.

Well, its official guys. Came home last night and El Vira was sleeping the longest sleep, she will be missed...
Don't know if its normal but it was like one of our family passed, a very sad night indeed..
It appears at this point that the murderer in the tank was more than likely her partner La Vey as last night he was attacking our large common plec violently and attacking his reflection like never before, it appears as though he has turned into the old grumpy oscar already.
Now in the 6ft: 1x 9inch grumpy oscar :irked:
2x 4inch jds (m/f pair)
1x 3inch texas
1x 1.5inch female con
1x 10inch albino common pleco
1x 5inch sailfin pleco
1x lonely 3inch male bristlenose
4x 2-3.5inch clown loaches
Also just moved the tiny green sev and salvini female from the giant gouramis tank so he can have some space they are all pretty happy in the 6'x18''x18" and now El Vira is gone :( everyone in the tank appears very healthy..
Thanks for the support everyone i'm sure it seems silly to many of the more experienced MFKers to get upset over an Oscar but she was one of our first 2 fish and the world is a slightly sadder place without her twirling around the tank stealing everyone elses food&sticking her nose into everyones photos..
