Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone had any information on ordering mass quantities of fish (for breeding purposes) and where you might be able to do that? I was looking for a wholesaler, but most are dying that you have to be a business.

So to take it a step further, I decided I would look into starting up an online store. Perhaps starting out slow, before moving into retail. Most of them now require a picture of your retail store.

Does anyone have any advice? I'm fine with a minimum purchase order. Any wholesalers out there left (used to go to TFD back in the day).

Man do I miss TFD bro. Someone will come with sources soon

Yeah I used to know a few local breeders around me always looking to give a deal on wholesale since they cater to LFS mainly. I just know of Jeff Rapps.

Its tough, because I consider Jeff Rapps to even be more or less retail.
Tany, doesn't look like I can order from SpencerJack since he is in Canada.
Ihsnshaik: Was there anyway you found out who your local breeders were?

Yes there is a local forum and community for cichlids called GCCA.net in Chicago. There is an auction like every month and tons and tons of breeders go there and you can make contacts there. The fish are very well priced to dirt cheap there.

Some will post on craigslist and will have many oddball fish and have small businesses as well. A lot is word of mouth and many people told me about facebook where tons are selling on there. I don't use facebook but there is a huge following there for local fish breeders.

I'll ask fellow fish enthusiast in my area some contacts and breeders and go from there. You can go to your LFS and ask them where they get their fish and etc but some might not like that since your not buying from them. They're plenty of warehouses but won't sell to the public but you can tell them you want to buy in bulk and go from there.

I would go to your local fish swap meet if you have one or any local club where you can get contacts.

So I went to a swap meet and got like 6 vieja synpsilum almost full grown for 4 dollars each and many other fish for really cheap. The best time to go is an hour before closing haha no one wants to haul fish back.

I'll most certainly look into it. Thank you so much for your help! Unfortunately, my search in the Pittsburgh area has mostly come up empty handed.
