The only bichir I have that actually took some work to get on to pellets is my Lapradei. She used to only eat chopped up shrimp and tilapia fillets (both still only once in a while), but would only eat in complete darkness, or if she was really really hungry, when no one was looking.
To get her on to the pellets she eats now, I had to teach her that "lights on" isn't a bad thing. To do that, I would make sure to feed them at night, right before I turned the lights off, and I wouldn't turn the lights off until the food was gone. After a couple weeks of that mixed with feeding as soon as the lights came on in the morning, I finally have her willingly eating the pellets with lights on and me watching.
Who else has had some finicky eaters?
