I have an empty 125 gallon tank I was planning on setting up for brackish water fish who are currently in my 75 gallon... however, I also want to pick up an aro. Without getting into the "the aro can't live in a 75 gallon forever" debate, answer this question...:

Who is in need of a 125 gallon more?
A) a 3 to 5" aro planning on grow-out...
B) 4" archer, (five) 3" mono's, scat, figure8puffer, columbian shark....

and any other info ill take as well.

dude i would do the brackish as it was your first idea. u can always wait a while for a good deal for the aro. the aro still got some time in him.

Guys who are telling me to put the Aro in the 125, i appriciate the responses and I realize that the aro will clearly need more room when hes full grown as compared to the brackish fish i currently have, but please do not ignore the fact that the archer and mono's all get close to 10" in size, and there multiple, is keeping them in the 75 forever and giving the 125 to the aro really the best way to go?

No, do the 125g brackish, a 125g still wont be big enough for an aro anyway so you might as well just move all the brackish water there and wait for a 180g for the aro, as that is the smallest tank i would recommend for an aro! PLUS a big brackish water tank will look really cool.

Thanks, I figgured this would be my course of action from the start...

a question, and ill say this before hand so as to not make you give me a lecture on it ;), i AM going to put an aro in the 75 gallon and grow it up... i am unsure of when I can buy a 180 gallon tank to house it in, so with that being said, if I purchased a 3" aro, how long could I keep him in a 75 gallon, or what size could I grow him too before I ABOSLUTELY had to move him... keep in mind i AM willing to do 50% water changes weekly and house him ALONE..what is the maximum ammount of time it would be possible, NOT the maximum ammount of time YOU'D do it for....?

What type of Arowana you planning on getting ?

I personally would say NO to the Arowana they need a minimum of 180gallon IMO you only got 125gallon go with a nice brackish set up some good Archer's and some Scats maybe get some artificial mangrove roots for decor sand substrate. and maybe get a nice little puffer fish like a topaz.

The arowana idea would not be a good one IMO

keep in mind that your aros growth rate is MUCH faster than your archer or mono's

a 3in. aro in a 75g with 50% water changes would only be good for 5 months max IMO.

is that enuf time for you to get your cycled 180g?
