I just set up my new 90 and added sand. Its very cloudy. Why?

Before you answer know that this sand was throughly washed AND was once in my 110 setup before it started leaking and was crystal clear...even on the day I added the sand originally. It only spent 2 days in the full 110 and then a week in it drained. The tank is full of half RO half tap water. Its is now a cloudy brown color and hasent seemed to improve.

Go

How long has the new tank been up and running?

24 hours. but like i said in the 110 it didnt even cloud when adding the sand. No fish. no filters. two 250 watt heaters with a power head to circulate heated water. The power head is not disturbing the sand bed.

Detritus will accumulate in the sand as will algae. Did you rinse the sand between the two tanks?

no but there was only fish in it for 1 day so how much crap could really be in there?

My money's on algae.

Organic particulate matter, as WyldFya / VLDesign / Hawkfish3.0 said. Of course that's without seeing it.

Q) "no but there was only fish in it for 1 day so how much crap could really be in there?"

A) Enough to feed an algae bloom if left for 24 hrs.

Thats possible. I feel like its unlikley though as the tank is sitting without lights or any natural light. I think ill just let it sit and try to do some more RO water changes.

Unless you guys have any other suggestions

The cloud came from somewhere. The detritus/unwashed gravel would be the biggest shot. Have you tested your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, as well as phosphates?
