Im having a hard time getting my orinos to pound food. Im currently feeding shrimp smelt and earthworms. They are only eating like once a day or every other day when all the other fish in the tank are puonding food twice per day

Any suggestions?

Should i try the garlic thing?

How many do you have? The greater the number, the more aggressive they will be eating. I feed my orinos tilapia mixed w Cichlid pellets. Most have converted to pellets, but there are still a few hold outs. Good luck.

I have 4 at 6" in a 250 gal

Ive only had them about 2 weeks so maybe they are still a little shy?

Try feeding smaller amounts at each feeding to make them more aggressive. It also helps to feed in the same spot every time.

if you want voracious appetites, competition is key.

the one food my cichla will gorge themselves on is mp.

also, how's the temperature of your water?

i keep the water at about 80 mainly for the stingrays. should it be warmer?

i have had mono, ocell, and 1 orino. THe mono and ocell were hogs! That is why i moved them out of the ray tank, cause it was impossible to get food to them. Then i picked up an orino and he was the opposite, and eats slower and less aggressive. Mine will ONLY eat pellets, which makes feeding rays much easier...so consider your self lucky...lol

My orinos love tilapia fillets. They were fully on live just two days ago and then yesterday I decided to toss in some tilapia. They ate like there was no tomorrow.

I like Hikari Bio Gold +. I have had more bass eat it and they also grow faster on it. Thats my staple food. I do better with the aro stix when I am trying to get them off of live or frozen foods.

Instead of just throwing pellets into the tank for the time being, throw just a couple pellets in. If they dont go after them dont feed anymore. Bass can go a decent amount of time and they will get hungry so they will start eating.

If they the cichla look skinny at all, go ahead and gut load them with what they want and then start trying to get them to eat pellet. Thats whats worked for me in the past.

Also like said above, competition never hurts.
