I'm looking at getting a 180gal fowlr. Not a reef tank. I'll be housing triggers tang, and others in the tank. I'm looking to get a wet/dry, skimmer, and a mechanical filter. But, should I have the tank setup up with a overflow at each corner in the back? Are they needed? I will housing all the filtration in the basement below the first floor where the tank will reside. Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks

good filtration, good skimmer, decent lighting lots of live rock...

they are need to draw water from the tank to the sump but you can make pvc ons or have it frilled :)

You lost me on "but you can make pvc ons or have it frilled"
"You can make PVC ones or have it (your tank) drilled"

You need overflows if you plan on utilizing a sump, 2 is a minimum, redundancy is your friend (an overflowing tank is your enemy). :)

overflows and a sump are really good on saltwater.... you can hide everything in the sump... highly recommend you use one...

Do you mean "2" sumps or "2" overflows. I'm looking at an overflow in each corner. I'm new on this type of setup, so any info or pointers, ideas, anything would be great.

Thanks

Sorry to be so brief.

In order to use a sump you need 2 or more overflows. Your sump pump will be pumping water from the sump into the tank. The overflows return the water to the sump (the tank will "over-flow"). The reason I say two minimum is that if you have a single overflow and something clogs the screen your tank will overflow onto the floor! Three or four overflows is safer yet - If you only have two overflows each should be able to handle the flow by itself.

Hope this helps!

By the way, you definitely want the built in overflows, the "over the back" kind are ugly and don't work as well.
