Well this is in my sons tank he has 1 jack dempsey and 1 green terror for 4 months now and there great eaters and very healthy. I got him a bumblebee and it died after 2 weeks and for easter i got him a nice blue ahli and it lasted a week.. Question is why are the africans dying and the others are doing so great?

How big is the tank? If the tank is too small the two cichlids who already have established territories could be killing them.

your putting less aggressive Africans in with very aggressive American cichlids..
And i agree with the post above, will be harder to get them to get along with the fish that are already in there if they already have established territories..
"IF" the tank IS big enough, move all the decorations around next time you add a fish, this will break up the territories..

Yes why are you?Stop it right now!

Kidding, need more info about your setup but off the bat those fish are not compatible.

^^^^^ He's right.

Africans want a higher PH. My African tank had a PH of around 8.4 and I had several generations in that tank. SA cichlids prefer a more neutral PH.

The tank is 55g but there like 4 inches so theres still plenty of room.No aggression at all. the ahli was so laid back and was a little bigger. Jack Dempsey rules the tank.. I know it was a long shot, but its just always strange when perfectly good healthy fish goes belly up.

You would be suprised what you can put together if you start them early. I have 2 jags,2 convicts and 5 silver dollars in a 75g.

An African will usually only stay alive for a week or two at a neutral 7.0-7.4 PH.....They need at least 8.0 PH......BUT that will kill your Jack and Green Terror!!!!.....You need another tank....

OK thats what i was afraid of.. Thanks crazycichlid. I may hafta try an african tank someday. I really liked the ahli,he had great blue color and a really good personality from day one.
