I had a betta in a breeder box (nice big yellow male) in my 29 gallon fry tank of flowerhorn x rose queen mixes and carpintis fry. Well, they were maybe an 8th of his body size. Like 1/4 inch.

Well this dumba** thinks the grass is greener on the other side and jumps out while I'm at work. I come home to find his lifeless body at the bottom of the tank, scaleless, finless, and eyeless. He even had places to hide! He practically could have eaten some of them!

Bettas are wussies. I'm sticking to my monster cichlids... Lol. Thanks for putting up with my rant. Kinda mad, I liked my yellow guy, and the box was only temporary while I set up a tank for him...

They are not Wussies they just don't fishy species besides other male bettas and flower horns are very aggressive so I can see why he died .i have seen firsthand bettas fighting and it is no funny task.they were lip locking and throwing each other literally out of the water

What makes a betta a "wussy"? Not every fish is meant to be large and aggressive. Bettas are intolerant of conspecifics but they tend to be mostly passive in larger tanks with other small species. The problem I see is that its color and finnage probably attracted your cichlid fry's attention and they probably swarmed him. Cichlid fry in large groups can easily harm even large fish -- I've had discus, angel, and severum fry injure their own parents when they get to a month or two old and start eating at their scales and fins. It's hard to defend against a bunch of them at once. Your betta really didn't have much of a choice.

i think ryansmith is correct, i had a tank with istlanum fry in it and i had closed down my sons tank and had nowhere else to but the betta it was only for a couple of days, all seem fine for the first day but then all the fry were swarming around him and biting at his fins.
luckily is was around to see it and managed to get him out of there before it was to late.

Let him vent and call bettas wussies lol...its also subjective because to me they are too, but its a matter of perception and opinion

I do have to agree with ryansmith83, though I think that OP prolly knows, just that it's kind of hard to not get mad in a situation like this when you get home to see a fish you like dead. D:

This pretty much sums it up... After looking back on my post I do sound like an idiot, lol. I was just mad I didn't get back earlier...

And I love Oscars btw, lol. Their definetely not the toughest fish though, I think that would go to plenty of other fish.
