I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, but I am genuinely curious. I've noticed prices on fish are becoming less and less affordable. Even with online vendors (for the most part) whom I would assume would have better prices, but actually is surprisingly the latter. My lfs sells fish based on how much they paid for the fish, so I always get a pretty good idea of what certain fish are going for and seeing some of these other stores trying to sell it for a certain price kind of makes me sick.

Also, this is in regards to smaller fish as I realize with the bigger ones the s&h is a *****

Transportation hasn't gotten cheaper, nor has exportation fees mor importation fees. Many countries stepped up conservation. Add in that many fish are going to other countries (Much of Asia) where the market is larger. These would be some of the reasons for wild fish, but I imagine that wild price impacts CB price as well.

The cost of doing business, gas and everything else has gone up also....why wouldn't fish? How common a fish is also affects the price. A fish that could be found anywhere 10 years ago, that you can't hardly find nowadays would cause the price to rise. There's not many things if any that remains constant price wise.

When everything else goes up like stated it's a domino effect.

I think it is a very expensive proposition to supply wc or cb fish, with a very slim profit margin. So any increase in cost along the line is seen at the retail level. Unlike other businesses that can absorb some fluctuations in cost to remain competitive. Something like a rate increase in utilities can have a big impact. Hopefully it is also an indication of the health of the hobby and increased demand is driving up prices.

The price of gas has actually gone down! But the airlines constantly claim that their costs are rising while turning record profits. I know its not the same for fedex or ups but still, that can't be the sole reason for increased costs.

I think price goes up bc we want quality fish, not hybrids at lfs that claim to be the real thing. I paid a good amount on my fish but I know their catch location etc also the shipping and what not. I wish it was cheaper too lol but the hobby is growing and prices increase for everything
Once you resell a fish your gnna sell it for a decent price you don't want to lose on it either
