I bought 6 koi for my pond some months ago, and as of last night I had only 3 left.
The reason for the loss of the 3? Jumping! These stupid fish all jumped to their death. Given the pond is in ground, still, no water=dead koi.
I figured water quality might be a reason, so to keep the water clean, I made a biofilter that is roughly half the size of the pond, and water quality has been excellent. There is all kinds of life in my little pond, virtually no algae(only a healthy amount) and params spot on.
Well guess what? I come out this morning for a smoke, sit down next to relaxing little pond, and my big calico koi is not in the pond? Well in the tall grass next to the ponds edge is my fat little guy, all dried up and sticky.
WTF?!? He was my biggest koi, and virtually eating from my hand. Why are these fish so dumb?
Ugh!
