A lot of the easier to get fish in the trade are from peru and columbia. I was wondering why a lot arent from brazil since brazil holds the biggest portion of the amazon? I know more rare and exotic fish are found in brazil like discus and fancy plecs....Is brazil harder to fish and get permits?

Just want your thoughts

I could very well be wrong, its been known to happen at times ;)

i was talking to the owner of a LFS about amazon rays and other fish and why most of them are so much $$, and he had said brazil now has a ban on exporting all their fish, because their trying to conserve now and keep their fish in their own country.

again, i could very well be wong, so hopefully someone who knows for sure will chime in

I did hear about the Brazilian governments export ban but I dont know the exact reason behind it.I would think that if they are so concerned about preserving their native fish then they would attempt to breed the most imperiled ones and have a stock/release system. It may be small but aquarium fish is or can be revenue for the country just as some Asian ****ries really get behind their fish and they do it in a way that it is profitable and doesnt strain the wild populations. Its one thing to be concerned about your native fishes but what about the jungles that are being destroyed almost nonstop which will soon dry up these lakes and rivers where the fish come from.I could also be wrong here but this is the way things seem to be.

Yea, It seems like brazil is putting on a lot of restrictions. Last night on river monsters the guy had to travel to a certain spot in the basin to be allowed to fish for the pima's. What i dont understand is how the vendor here Snookn21 is getting his wilds from brazil like the discus. I also wonder about the distrubution of some fish like fish in the dead middle of the amazon.

I cant speak for the vendors but I imagine that they have some good connections and collectors down in the surrounding area who can get things done.
