So in my 120 gallon tank I have the following:

7 inch male festae
6 inch female festae
4 inch Argentae
4 inch Bifa
4 inch Black Belt
6 inch Bichir
5 inch Pleco

They have been together for the most part for about 3-4 months. Everything was good, they were active and happy. About 5 days ago I came in and turned on the light and they all freaked out. They swam everywhere like mad and now they hide in the logs, rarely come out, and are acting stressed. The parameters are good with no ammonia or nitrite and less than 20 ppm nitrate. PH is normal as well. Any thoughts? The bichir and pleco are the only fish acting normal.

stray electrical current in tank from heater or pump?

They are eating. Not sure about pooping. I am going to check my heaters.

I have a tank doing the same thing, for about a month now. I have seen it before and there is no explaining it. The main trouble maker is a carpitis that is the first to spook about every time. First he freeks out then my RTs then everyone else. I figure they will quit the same way they started, without reason or cause. At least that I can figure out.

My course of action has always been to just be patient and wait for them to calm down.

Interesting read. I did find one of my heaters with a small crack. I unplugged it and am monitoring.

Sounds like stray current as said above ^^, a heater with a crack is no good, replace and buy a titanium grounding probe while your at it! Usually fish freak out and act weird when water is bad, but if you test and know your params I guess that's ruled out.

That was my first thought so I did a water change. They seem to be hesitant but are swimming in the open more now.
