I HAVE A LEO AND A REG MOTORO ABOUT 6 INCHES IN A 4X2X2 120 GALLON TANK. WITH 2-XP4. 2-MAG 250 MICRON. UV STERILIZER. AND A CASCADE. 3 48 INCH BUBBLE WANDS. IT SEEMS LIKE THEY ARE ALWAYS BREATHING HEAVIER THAN THE RAYS IN MY OTHER TANKS. EVEN BEFORE THEY EAT. THEY ARE IN WITH SOME DISCUS WHICH I THOUGHT ONE HAD GILL FLUKES SO I PULLED OUT AND HAVE BEEN PRAZI. THE TANK. IM DOING 50 PERCENT WATERCHANGE TWICE DQAILY AND REENTERING THE MEDS. THEY BOTH ARE SWIMMING AROUND LIKE CRAZY AND EATING EVERYTHING. JUST THE BREATHING IS THROWING ME FOR A LOOP. ANY INSIGHT?

ITS EVEN WHEN THEY ARE FRESH IN THE MORNING. BEFORE THEY EAT. METALS I DONT KNOW. BUT MY OTHER RAYS ARE ON THE SAME TAP. EVEN THE NEWBORNS. THEY BEEN DOING THIS FOR A MONTH. I DONT THINK ITS THAT SERIOUS BUT JUST BOTHERS ME

i lust had parasite problems and my pups didnt seem affected but they were in the same tank as some that were... then they started breathing heavy... it could be in its early stages...

i would keep with the prazi, but as long as ur water params are good i wouldnt change the water so much.... the med might need time w out waterchanges to do its job..

I DO THE WATER CHANGES SO OFTEN FOR MY FISH GROWTH. I GOT THE LEO FROM MIKE ABOUT 6 WEEKS AGO AND ITS ALREADY OVER 6 INCHES AND ALL BLACK. FEED 4 TIMES DAILY. I READD THE PRAZI EVERY CHANGE SO ITS ALWAYS AT ITS HIGHEST CONCENTRATION. SO I DONT THINK THATS IT.

maybe something in your tank scared them? lol jk its probably just the water theyll be fine

I noticed keeping rays on bare bottom verses gravel that they breath harder on bare bottom tanks. Maybe that is just my experience but I think on the bare bottom they have a harder time drawing water into their gills because their disk lays so flat. Just a thought.

I remember talking to an old LFS owner about heavy metals in our water and how it would effect the gill functioning.. things like copper and zinc would eventually cause certain fishes gills to curl outwards and no longer functioning.. Your frequent water changes could have something to do with it, if there are metals in the tap..

Might also look into a secondary symptom called hyperplasia, which is like scar tissue forming on the gills from a number of things like exposure to ammonia, heavy metals, high dissolved solids, etc..
